What is your biological sex?
Some hair loss medicines (including finasteride and dutasteride) are not licensed for women and must not be taken by anyone who is or may become pregnant. This helps us route you to safe options at clinical review.
How old are you?
Hair loss medicines are prescription-only and licensed for adults. Your age also tells the prescriber whether a medicine sits inside or outside its licensed age range.
Which best represents your hair loss and goals?
Where are you noticing hair loss?
How much hair have you lost?
When did you start noticing changes to your hair?
Have you tried prescription hair loss treatment before?
Includes finasteride, minoxidil or anything a clinician has prescribed.
With treatment, what results are you hoping for?
Choose as many as apply.
We can't treat under-18s
Hair loss medicines like finasteride, dutasteride and minoxidil are prescription-only and are not licensed for anyone under 18, so we can't prescribe them for you.
Hair loss at your age is worth having looked at properly, because the cause is more often something other than pattern hair loss. Please speak to your GP, who can examine you and refer you to a dermatologist if needed.

Suggested starting plan
See full plan details →This is a suggested starting point only, not a prescription. Your GMC-registered doctor will review your full medical history and discuss the licensed indication, benefits and risks of any medicine before prescribing. If your plan includes finasteride or dutasteride, this will include the MHRA-listed risks (Drug Safety Updates 29 April 2024 and 11 May 2026): mood changes including depression and rarely suicidal thoughts, sexual side effects (reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory disorders) and the risk of persistent symptoms after stopping. Finasteride is not licensed for women and women who are or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken finasteride tablets, or handle leaking dutasteride capsules.
