What we see most in Yorkshire and the North East
Yorkshire and the North East is where we most often end up recommending bloods before anything is prescribed. A noticeable share of enquiries describe diffuse thinning across the whole scalp rather than the receding hairline or crown pattern of androgenetic alopecia, and diffuse loss has a longer differential: thyroid dysfunction, low ferritin, and telogen effluvium after illness or a period of stress. Prescribing finasteride for hair loss that is not androgenetic will not help.

If you would rather come in
Leeds and York are around two hours from Kings Cross, Newcastle nearer three. The remote pathway is the default here and there is no clinical disadvantage to it.

Questions we get from Yorkshire & North East patients
My hair is thinning all over rather than at the temples. Is that still pattern hair loss?
It might not be, and that matters. Diffuse thinning across the whole scalp raises the possibility of thyroid dysfunction, low ferritin, or telogen effluvium after illness or a stressful period. Finasteride does nothing for any of those.
Would I need blood tests first?
Sometimes, and we will say so rather than prescribing around it. Where the pattern does not fit androgenetic alopecia, a panel through WMG Healthcare usually costs less than months of treatment aimed at the wrong problem.
Do I have to travel to London for bloods?
No. WMG Healthcare can arrange testing without you attending Harley Street, and results are reviewed by the same clinical group before anything is prescribed.
